The results of the sociological research carried out by the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law of the Estonian Academy of Sciences in December 1986 (representative sampling of Estonian working population, number of respondents 1,480); in April 1988 (Estonian working population, 960 respondents); in September 1990 (working Russian population, 470 respondents). The final study was done in December 1990, when the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law (of the Estonian Academy of Sciences) and the EKE ARIKO Consultancy carried out a research project, ‘The Russians in the Social Conditions in Estonia' in Tallinn. Quota sampling was applied to select respondents according to the statistical model. We received 750 correctly filled questionnaires: 41% of respondents were Estonians, 52% were Russians and 7% other Slavs (Ukrainians and Byelorussians)
