The constrained operating circum stances of academic libraries in recent years have produced significant mod ifications of practice. The latter, in turn, have resulted in both explana tions and justifications of events. A new professional philosophy is grow ing out of this debate. This review examines certain aspects of the new model librarianship as these are pre sented in recent publications.
