Abstract
A survey was made of past students of the MA in Information Studies (Social Sciences) of the Postgraduate School of Librarianship and Information Studies. University of Sheffield, 1973/4 to 1979/80. Particular attention was paid to first and current posts. the duties involved and the demands made upon respondents. With a view to future curriculum development, res pondents were asked to assess the relevance of the course to their subsequent careers and to Identify new professional personal skills which they may have had to acquire. Differences and similari ties between the roles and experiences of librarians and informationists are tabulated and discussed.
