An outline of the findings of the author's 1978 survey, 'Library cooperation in the United Kindom: existing arrangements, gaps in provision and research which may be needed', of the 1980 seminar 'Local library cooperation: its current state and future development' and of the author's local library co-operation research project 1981. Special attention is given to the 'modular' approach to local library co-operation.
