Abstract
International recognition of literary output is measured by analysing the pattern of indexing and abstracting coverage for 1441 publications constituting the geographical literature on Nigeria from 1901 to 1970. Results show that indexing is generally keeping pace with the increasing volume of publications, although only 46·4% of the literature is indexed. Indexing coverage varies considerably according to form, publisher, and particularly according to place of publication. Geographical Abstracts and Current Geographical Publications emerge as the two services covering most of the literature continuously. The significance of the results to librarians and authors is suggested.
