Abstract
An over-view of libraries in Nigeria with particular attention to the National Library and public libraries and a description of the effects of the Civil War and the division of the Regions into States on libraries and their development since the war's end in February 1970 to August 1973. The profession and the Nigerian Library Association are described and problems of future development, co-operation, standardization and centralized control are discussed.
