Abstract
The establishment of the British Library may solve many problems for libraries but raises others. There is a need for considering the present system of library organization in Britain and comparing it with those of other European countries. A new administration based on regional systems is suggested with a view to stimulating further discussion. Edited version of an address given at a joint meeting of SCONUL and the University, College and Research Section of the Library Association, April, 1973.
