The establishment of a single institution encompassing various phases of a President's life has as its archetype the Rutherford B. Hayes Memorial Library in Freemont, Ohio. However, because it is operated by the State of Ohio and the Rutherford B. Hayes Foundation, it is not considered in this category of presidential libraries. It does, however, perform most of the functions of the libraries that are the subject of this paper.
