Abstract
In the development of education and technology, the role of the librarian is a vital one. Against a background of rapid change, young Nigerians are being trained in the essential skills of information retrieval. With little opportunity for prior experience, the learning of sophisticated techniques, which have up to now only been employed in the dissemination of foreign knowledge, presents many problems. The values of individual tuition, practical exercises and demonstration techniques are discussed. For the newly trained specialist, the future holds prospects of a rewarding experience.
