Abstract
Japan has always been one of the forgotten countries in the collections of British libraries and it is only since the war that any real progress has been made towards the building of collections in the modern Japanese language. In this article the author reviews the current position of British libraries with regard to book buying from Japan, evaluates the problems confronting the Japanese Librarian in Britain, and attempts to assess current and future cost factors in the purchase of modern Japanese books.
