Abstract
The aims and objectives involved when introducing computers into public libraries and the problem of the size of the library system. The "housekeeping" operations described: book ordering, cataloguing, circulation methods, with points for and against different methods. The priorities involved in introducing these three related processes are then dealt with and suggestions made on phasing. Finally, the end-product of information on book use and readers' interests is mentioned, and the value of this "feedback" information. This is divided into two sections: firstly book ordering and secondly, methods for improving the organization and working of the library.
