Abstract
This qualitative study, employing content analysis and purposive sampling, examined the status of infodemic management in Iranian medical university libraries based on the World Health Organization’s competency framework. The study population consisted of managers of central libraries at Iranian medical science universities, from whom data were collected via interviews with 13 participants. Analysis of the interview data yielded 734 primary codes. These codes were iteratively categorized, beginning with the initial interviews, to form three main categories aligned with the research objectives: (1) Identification and interventions for infodemics; (2) Preparedness for infodemics; and (3) Competencies and foundational skills. These main categories encompassed eight subcategories. The findings underscore the importance of training to enhance the skills of medical science librarians and managers in addressing infodemics. Furthermore, this study highlights the need for a multi-faceted approach to infodemic management, encompassing not only individual librarian competencies but also robust institutional support, including updated training curricula, collaborative partnerships, and strategic resource allocation to effectively combat misinformation and empower communities
