Abstract
Global and diffuse horizontal illuminance data are analysed for Athens, Greece in 1992. It is shown diagrammatically that illuminance (global and diffuse) is dependent upon the time of the day and month. The diagrams are categorised according to Perrandeau's nebulosity index which reflects the sky cover environment and the climate of a given area. The diagrams reflect the characteristics of the Mediterranean-type Athens climate. The conclusions are of potential value in local architecture, lighting installations and energy-saving policy.
