The paper describes a calculation method for the design of optical elements to be used in luminaires and light sources. The method enables the design by IBM PC of mirror profiles and refracting prismatic structures producing any light distribution from radiation incident at any angle. Typical calculations are given and compared with those of mathematical and physical models.
