Abstract
The techniques of semantic differential scale and factor analysis have been used to investigate the optimum lighting conditions of the visual environment for the exhibition of cultural relics. Bronze ware, unglazed painted pottery and tri-coloured glazed pottery of the Tang Dynasty have been studied. The parameters used to describe the lighting conditions of the visual environment for the exhibition are the azimuth a and elevation θ of the directional lighting and the vector/scale illuminance ratio E/E s.
