Road lighting performance sheets have been developed to give, for roads of various dimensions and for the four types of road surface standardized by the CIE, the lighting quality values. The level of quality can be determined by the designer according to the specifications applicable. Using the data so obtained as the input to a cost comparison computer program, the optimum road lighting scheme, from the points of view of lighting technology, cost and energy consumption, can be obtained.
