The central theme for discussion at the IREC (Industrial Relations in the European Community network) Conference held in Copenhagen in September 1996 was `Industrial Relations in Europe: Convergence or Diversification?'. This article - by three of the organizers - presents a comparative assessment of three of the sub-themes treated at the conference, weighing their significance in relation to the overall pattern of convergence and divergence in European industrial relations.
