Abstract
A databased modelling approach is developed for a transmission line using an artificial neural network (ANN). By embedding the pure delay properties of a lossless line, the ANN approach attempts to ensure that the key dynamic features of the real line are retained. The concept is utilized to investigate leakage fault conditions in an electrohydraulic pressure control system by considering network weight and bias changes as leakage faults are introduced at the beginning and at the end of the line. It is shown that one bias weight only is a significant indicator of the fault conditions.
