Looren de Jong traces Gibson's ecological approach to perception to the tradition of Heider and Brunswik, and from Gibson to Marr. In this commentary I first discuss the use of classifying traditions. Then I discuss Looren de Jong's classifications of naturalism and rationalism. I then argue that Marr's position is accordingly misrepresented.
