Abstract
In central as in western Europe, non-profit or ganizations (such as charities, associations and foundations, non-profit co-operatives) are increasingly important in the delivery of a wide range of services formerly delivered by state agencies. The creation of the single European market in the west is transforming the legal, regulatory and financial environment in which these organizations operate. It is quite possible that the EC will itself become an important part of the regulatory mix.
