The publication in the 1980s of The Christian Watt Papers brought to public attention
the life of a previously unknown, long-term inmate of the Aberdeen Royal Asylum.
Christian Watt's story inspired a play and a television documentary. This
paper examines what the historical records reveal about Watt's life and how
this compares with her own account.
