Showbusiness journalism ain't what it used to be, bemoans veteran entertainment correspondent Davis. "The superstar world has shrunk enormously since the great days of Hollywood, when there were half-a-dozen studios with long rosters of stars from which a show business writer could pick and choose," he writes. "Now each star possesses an adamantine Praetorian guard. If you don't agree to their rules of engagement, you will not be granted what they call 'access'." The result: unlimited pap in the national newspapers.
