Abstract
Current National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines recommend empirical antibiotic treatment (EAT) for sexual contacts of Chlamydia trachomatis irrespective of test results. This audit reviewed our clinical practice against NICE guidelines. The secondary aim was to review the subsequent sexually transmitted infection screening results of the sexual contacts to ascertain how many had a diagnosis of Chlamydia confirmed and whether the practice of EAT should be reviewed.
