Abstract
The self-help production of housing and the living environment in Dakar, Senegal describes the processes by which low-income groups acquire land and develop their own housing in Pikine within Dakar. It discusses how the attitudes and actions of Third World governments must change to support these low-income groups - not least because these are the groups responsible for building and developing most new housing.
