Abstract

Improved stoves, women and domestic energy describes how an over-emphasis on energy saving stoves may hide the real causes of deforestation and fail to address the most pressing needs of poor women. Drawing from a case study in rural communities in southern Rajasthan, India, the paper shows how improved stoves often fail to meet women's needs and priorities and suggests that to achieve a more sustainable use of resources, these needs must be addressed.
