Abstract
This review, compiled mainly from published sources, gives some indication of the wide variety of issues that have concerned national libraries in recent years, and of the many developments that have taken place all over the world. General works on national libraries and their functions are featured first, followed by those concerned with particular subjects: New buildings and extensions, Legislation, Collection and retention policy, Legal deposit, Catalogues and bibliographies, and Preservation. The final section is arranged alphabetically by country.
