Abstract
Introduction
Institutional repositories are webased space for keeping and making available intellectual contents of higher institution to world. This study examined utilisation of institutional repositories in academic libraries in Nigeria. a systematic review.
Methodology
The methodology covers search strategy, inclusion and exclusion criteria, search results, and data extraction tools. Search strategy: this search strategy deals with the method adopted in sourcing the literature selected for analysis and used to research questions including: What are the types of information resources available in the institutional repositories of academic libraries in Nigeria? What are the purposes of institutional repositories used in academic libraries in Nigeria? What is the level of institutional repositories use in academic libraries in Nigeria? The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Metal-Analysis (PRISMA) technique is employed. This method was adjudged to be the appropriate method for systematic review. The study established that institutional repository is an important phenomenon in academic libraries that showcase the university’s collection to the entire world.
Conclusion
The study concludes that institutional respositories usage in academic libraries in Nigeria is very low. This implies that with huge amount of money university libraries put together to create institutional repositories in libraries their usage is perceived to be very low.
