The role and relevance of national libraries in society

Abstract

This paper discusses the future role and relevance of national libraries from three different aspects of sustainability, and the role of national libraries in these. The paper is a edited version of a speech by IFLA President Barbara Lison at a resent meeting with the CENL – the Conference of European National Librarians - a network of in total 46 national libraries in 45 European countries.
