Abstract
After entering the twenty-first century, more and more new library buildings emerged in China; the development of Chinese library activity strode into a brilliant era. As one of the pioneers that led the country's library activity from tradition to modernization, Shanghai Library has been gradually losing its advantage in the modernization of the buildings and facilities. So in the new century, it is significant that recently Shanghai Library has been continuously researching and practising how to aim at new development targets, grasp new development opportunities, and gradually create an endogenously increasing development capability. In re-exploring the library's value as a place, this article explores Shanghai Library's consideration of the new round of development from three aspects: (1) re-exploring the library's value as a place; (2) innovating the hybrid service model; (3) expanding a new area for the knowledge service. The author then puts forward the strategic direction of a new round of development for Shanghai Library.
