Abstract
Biodiesel is an alternative fuel source due to the extended value of fossil fuel; it has cleanliness and extends the longevity of the diesel engine. The present study aims to improve the properties of palm oil methyl ester (POME) fuel by adding a 50 ppm CaO nanoadditive mix. The study assessed engine performance at a modified compression ratio of 18.5:1 using six distinct mixes of POME under four varying loads at a constant speed of 1500 r/min. POME40 demonstrated the most favorable outcome among the six blends, succeeded by the 50 ppm CaO nanoadditive combined with POME40. This combination enhanced brake thermal efficiency by 2.19% and reduced brake-specific fuel consumption by 4.2%. It also achieved a 16% increase in exhaust gas temperature and a 25% reduction in carbon monoxide emissions compared to POME40 without CaO.
