Abstract
The condition of the cooling channels of the injection mold has a significant impact on the cooling rate and final product quality. However, there is no simple method to assess whether the channels are clean or need cleaning. The volume flow and pressure drop in the medium were measured in the water and compressed air channels. Based on the experiment and theoretical model it was shown that using the water volume flow rate function or the channels condition function (derived in the article) for a different supply pressure of air, it is possible to calculate the flow parameters and the hydraulic resistance in the cooling channels of the injection mold for the water flow, even if compressed air is used for measurements. An algorithm for assessing the contamination level of the cooling channels in the injection mold is proposed. The developed method allows for an objective assessment of the level of channel contamination.
