Abstract
A new series of polyamides was prepared from a diamine containing cinnamoyloxyethyl group and aromatic dicarboxylic acids by the phosphorylation method. The diamine containing cinnamoyloxyethyl group was prepared by esterification of 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid followed by reduction of the dinitro compound to the diamine. The polyamides were synthesized in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone containing pyridine, triphenyl phosphite and lithium chloride at 100 °C. The polyamides exhibited inherent viscosities in the range of 0.59-0.73 dL g-1 and glass transition temperatures ranging from 202 to 219 °C. The chemistry and physical properties of these polyamides are discussed herein.
