Abstract
This article contends that the phrase חכרפה חיבמ (Sir. 50.5) reflects a similar reading from the Hebrew Bible (חכרפל חיבמ, Exod 26.33; Lev. 16.2, 12; Num. 18.7) and likewise means ‘within’ or ‘inside’ ‘the [inner] veil’. This indicates that the sacrifice in view in Sirach 50 is that of the Day of Atonement.
