This article traces, through both a geographically defined, actor-oriented and an issue-oriented lens, the most important changes which have taken place in South Africa's external relations since the internal transformation process started in 1990. Previously, the one overriding theme in South African foreign relations had been its internal policy of apartheid. This has changed completely. However, the process of change is not complete: certain continuities exist and further changes can be expected. These are also reviewed.
