Welcome to the year where AI, precision medicine, robotics, 3D printing and virtual reality will widen the gap between the medicine of the XX century and the modern one. Nothing will be the same.
Yet, health care is still affected by the same issues of 50 years ago. Integration between community and hospital care. Inappropriate prescriptions. Over and under treatment. Poor coordination. Lack of case management. Professionalism as individualism. Adverse selection. Inequalities. Wastes. Inefficiencies. Market-drive choices rather than mission or outcomes.
There is still an immense need to research the management side of health systems. To generate primary research to learn more about current issues. To provide sound review to systematize what we know. And what we don’t know or should know. Like in this issue of HSMR.
