Abstract
The dramatic rise of activity in academic–industry technology transfer in the USA, and its increasingly significant impact, lead the authors to examine changes, trends, and recent developments in transfer activities. They examine a variety of issues related to the policies, awareness, personnel and nature of licensing. They hypothesize that academic–industry technology transfer has been evolving in such a way as to indicate a recognition of the economic role of academic institutions which has been called the ‘Second Academic Revolution’.
