Abstract
This article outlines the experience of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), a paradigm of the Latin American research-oriented university, relating the development of its research policy to the broader economic and technological contexts. Rather than presenting a case study aiming to generalize specific features, the author illustrates how the dynamic of university—industry relations is affected by the evolution of the environment within which they take place.
