Abstract
Lifelong learning is an individual initiative and a concern of businesses, but to be successful it needs a framework which universities and other public educational institutions can provide. That framework should include operating principles and the infrastructure for providing and distributing adult education. Implementation of the framework is dependent on practical cooperation between enterprises and universities and other educational institutions. Lifelong learning needs are based on analysing business visions and strategies. Company core competencies are developed through lifelong learning programmes of core employees. Lifelong learning programmes support the present and future operations of the company, as well as providing employees with assets which help them adapt to future work requirements. This article sets out the key principles of lifelong learning and assesses how these can be successfully implemented in practice.
