Abstract
This article reviews the current status of collaborative research in the UK, although its general conclusions will be applicable to other Western countries. A definition of collaborative research is followed by an analysis of recent official and unofficial documents charting a way forward for collaborative research in the UK. Among other issues, intellectual property rights are highlighted.
