Abstract
This article describes the importance of continuing engineering education at Luoyang Mining Machinery Plant, a heavy engineering company in Henan. The plant's links with Luoyang Industrial Institute and Shanghai Jiao Tong University are described. The article describes the retraining needs of the various age groups within the company, pointing out that the knowledge of many engineers educated during the 1950s is almost obsolete, while those who graduated in the 1960s were affected by the Cultural Revolution. The numerous methods of continuous education employed at the plant are described and the importance of international links are stressed.
