Abstract
The technological imperative is one of the major competitive challenges facing the EEC's future industrial and economic development. The need to establish structures to ensure effective cooperation between higher education and industry is pressing. This article examines each member state in turn, with special attention paid to their attitude towards cooperation and the training of academic liaison staff. Factors required for cooperation are analysed and obstacles discussed. The author emphasizes the urgency for the training requirement to be dealt with to meet the technological challenges of the 1990s.
