Abstract
In an attempt to assess potential for success for learning disabled applicants, some colleges and universities utilize the results of the Wechsler scales. The purpose of this article is to assess the validity of this practice. To this end, results are reported from a study in which data from the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R), GPA after two semesters of full-time enrollment, and selected student characteristics were gathered and entered into regression analyses for a sample of 49 learning disabled college students. In general, WAIS-R results were not predictive of success for this group, though the Comprehension and Similarities subtests were significantly correlated to GPA. These results are integrated with the results of other studies in order to provide guidelines for practitioners.
