Abstract
The emphasis in programming for the LD adolescent is changing from tutoring and remediation to teaching learning strategies. Assessment techniques, however, provide information on which to base a remedial program, but do not tend to provide guidance on developing an Individualized learning strategies program. This article presents informal assessment techniques for assessing classroom demands, written language, studying and test-taking skills, notetaking, and gaining information from text. The content of the assessment is conceptualized in terms of the University of Kansas learning strategies curriculum (Schumaker, Deshler, Alley, & Warner, 1983). A test down approach to assessment is suggested (Zigmond, Vallecorsa, & Silverman, 1983).
