Abstract
This paper is an assessment of Yeshayahu Leibowitz's Judaism, Human Values, and the Jewish State. In this collection of essays, the highly prolific Jewish scholar argues for a radical separation of religion and the state. This radical point of departure is assessed for the consequences it has for a wide range of issues, especially the nature and limits of liberty as these relate to the discipline of economics. This is done by establishing a dialogue between some Jewish insights on these matters and a Christian perspective.
