Abstract
This article begins by describing the process and effects of globalization over the past 20 years. With the decline in state capacity, changes in the global economy, and the end of the cold war, the environment within which NGOs operate has been much changed. As a result, NGOs have been forced to face the challenges of globalization of the NGO sector. The authors detail how relief and development organizations have responded to these challenges, both internally and externally, and also propose new possibilities for global NGO cooperation and network building.
