This article presents an initial assessment of the numbers and functions
of nonprofit organizations within the California Hispanic community,
whose population will soon constitute one-third of the state total. The
changing social and political realities accompanying rapid population
growth have stimulated a notable expansion in numbers and kinds of nonprofit groups. Changing realities have also motivated key organizations
to replace older, piecemeal approaches to community problems with
regional and strategic ones.
