Recently the issue has been raised concerning the nomenclature for describing dentition in the veterinary dental patient. Several methods for referencing teeth have been utilized, leading to confusion concerning an acceptable system that is interchangeable between species. The Modified Triadan System is introduced and offers a simple, accurate, “user friendly” veterinary dental nomenclature system. This article describes how the system evolved and its advantages for the veterinary dentist.
