Abstract
Dear Editor,
In regards to the 28(4) STEP-BY-STEP article “Guided Tissue Regeneration for Infrabony Pocket Treatment in Dogs” the authors would like to make a correction to the published manuscript. Page 282, paragraph five, sentence five reads “While both products act as scaffolding for migrating cells to form new bone (osteoconduction), the allograft is a source of cells (osteogenisis) and bone morphogenic proteins (osteoinduction) which may enhance bone production.” The demineralized ostoeoallograft is considered osteoconductive and osteoinductive, however it does not provide a source of viable cells and therefore should not be considered osteogenic. True osteogenisis could be achieved with the application of an autogenous bone graft that provides viable bone forming cells.
Sincerely,
Wade Gingerich
