Abstract
This article examines Christian Science (CS) nursing as an alternative approach to nursing practice. A brief history of the CS faith is presented along with a description of the relationship of CS nursing to this denomination's beliefs in spiritual healing. CS nurses serving as informants describe several ideals and beliefs which form the basis of their "vision of nursing." An understanding of the work and practice of CS nurses suggests numerous interventions for the practice of other nurses in traditional, biomedical practice. Specific applications are discussed.
