Abstract
This short response to research performed on the art of nursing was written by an undergraduate nursing student at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. In it, the author uses an original article, “Sarah’s Story” (also in this issue) and an accompanying poem, “Sarah’s Insight,” to explore her own interpretation of the art of nursing. The art of nursing is “a feeling, a privilege, heartache, a passion, a love, and an art.” Sarah, who was interviewed by the researcher, feels that, during her hospital stay, her nurses found joy in caring for her. Firsthand experience shadowing an experienced nurse showed a similar expression of nursing’s art. Nursing is an art form not taught in the classroom.
